Everything you need to know

Engraved retro design Double blade Some tools are kept in a drawer; others are placed on a desk, next to a fountain pen and a cigar box, simply because you like looking at them. The FILIGRANE double cigar punch belongs to the latter family. Its short, dense cylindrical body is entirely covered with an engraved retro design, a network of geometric guilloché-style patterns that catches the light and evokes the lighters and cases of the Roaring Twenties. Beneath this decor lies a serious tool: a circular blade at each end, with two different diameters, protected by a cap that is simply removed to punch the head of the cigar. Crafted from stainless steel, it measures 62 × 14 mm and weighs 50 g: a dense piece that feels reassuring in the hand, and also slips easily into a jacket pocket. Two patinated finishes are available, Bronze and Aged Silver, each delivered in a black presentation box with an orange interior.

Guilloché, a decorative art born for precious objects

Guilloché is an ornamental engraving technique that consists of tracing fine, repetitive lines—rosettes, waves, grids—into metal to form a regular geometric pattern. Popularized in the 18th century on watch cases, snuffboxes, and cases, it has long been a hallmark of the most refined smoker's accessories: lighters, cigarette cases, and pocket cigar cutters. Beyond aesthetics, these reliefs serve a practical purpose: they improve the grip and mask minor everyday scratches.

The FILIGRANE captures this spirit with a guilloché-style engraved design across the entire surface of the body. The Bronze and Aged Silver finishes are intentionally patinated: the recesses of the pattern remain darker than the reliefs, which gives depth to the design and the look of an object that has already lived through a few decades. The heart of the tool remains stainless steel, a guarantee of corrosion-resistant blades.

A smoking room object, just like in the past

There was a time when every smoker's accessory was a small object of art. You chose your cigar cutter the way you chose your cufflinks: for its decor, its patina, and the pleasure of pulling it from your vest pocket at the end of a dinner.

The FILIGRANE reconnects with this appreciation for fine craftsmanship. Its body engraved with retro patterns, its bronze or aged silver patina, and its compact size make it a piece that naturally finds its place on a wooden desk, in a smoking room, or next to a humidor. But the object is more than just an ornament: its two circular blades cleanly punch the head of the cigar, and the tobacco plug is ejected with a simple closing motion.

It is the cigar punch for collectors, for those who love mechanical watches, fountain pens, and fine bindings, and who want their cigar ritual to have the same elegance. You take it out, you spin it between your fingers, you place it on the table: it is already part of the conversation.

Punching your cigar in four steps

1
Remove the cap from the side with the appropriate diameter for your cigar: small blade for a slim module, large blade for a thick cigar.
2
Center the blade on the head. Hold the tool perfectly perpendicular to the cap of the cigar.
3
Turn while pressing gently. A quarter to a half-turn is enough for the blade to cut a plug of a few millimeters.
4
Close to eject. By replacing the cap, the tobacco plug is forced out of the blade; all that remains is to discard it.

FILIGRANE among our cigar punches

Good to know: the FILIGRANE punches cigars with rounded heads (Corona, Robusto, Toro, Churchill). It is not suitable for pointed heads like Torpedo or Pyramid, for which a guillotine is preferable. The exact diameters of the two blades are not provided by the manufacturer. Discover other models in our cigar cutter collection.

Advice: to maintain the luster of the decor, wipe the body with a soft, dry cloth after use: tobacco residue and moisture from your fingers can eventually tarnish the reliefs. Do not use abrasive polishing products, as these would erase the patina of the recesses and thus the contrast of the pattern.

Frequently asked questions

How does the FILIGRANE cigar punch work?

The FILIGRANE is a cigar punch: instead of slicing the head of the cigar like a guillotine, it cuts out a small disk. Each end of the body features a circular blade, protected by a cap. You remove the cap from the chosen side, place the blade in the center of the head, and then turn slightly while pressing: the blade sinks in by a few millimeters and cuts a tobacco plug. By closing the cap, this plug is ejected from the blade. The result is a clean opening that concentrates the draw and preserves the wrapper.

Why are there two blade diameters?

Because not all cigars have the same thickness. An opening must remain significantly smaller than the diameter of the cigar so that the wrapper maintains a solid edge. The small blade is therefore intended for slim modules or for fans of a tighter draw; the large blade is suitable for thick cigars, whose head offers more surface area. If you are hesitant, always start with the small one: the opening can be enlarged later with the large one, whereas an opening that is too wide cannot be corrected. The exact measurements are not provided by the manufacturer.

Is the decor engraved or printed?

The decor of the FILIGRANE is engraved into the metal in the form of geometric relief patterns covering the entire body, in the spirit of antique guilloché work. It is this relief that gives the object its depth: the Bronze and Aged Silver finishes are patinated so that the recesses remain darker than the reliefs. To the touch, you can clearly feel the design beneath your fingers, which also improves grip. Like any patinated finish, it will evolve slowly with use and become polished on the most frequently handled areas.

Bronze or Aged Silver: which finish to choose?

Both versions share the same stainless steel construction, the same blades, and the same design; only the shade of the patina differs. The Bronze finish is warm, amber, and naturally matches the wood of a humidor, the leather of a club chair, or the gold tones of a lighter. Aged Silver is colder and more graphic; it evokes antique silverware and pairs well with a steel watch or silver cufflinks. Simply choose the one that best complements the other objects in your ritual.

Which cigars can be punched with the FILIGRANE?

The FILIGRANE is designed for cigars with rounded heads, i.e., the vast majority of parejos: Petit Corona, Corona, Robusto, Toro, Churchill, or Double Corona. It is not suitable for pointed heads (Torpedo, Pyramid, Belicoso), where the circular blade finds no flat surface. It is also less appropriate for very slim cigars, where the opening would leave too little wrapper. For these specific formats, keep a guillotine or a V-cutter on hand as a supplement.

How do I clean the cigar punch?

After each use, the plug is normally ejected when the cap is closed; if any residue remains in the blade, remove it delicately with a toothpick. From time to time, wipe the body and blades with a soft, dry cloth to eliminate tobacco residue and moisture from your fingers. Do not use any abrasive products or polishing paste: they would erase the patina of the recesses and thus the contrast of the design. Also, avoid water and the dishwasher. Stored in its box, it will keep its look for a long time.

Does the FILIGRANE attach to a keychain?

No, the FILIGRANE is not equipped with a keyring: it is an object for a pocket or desk, which slips into a jacket pocket, a cigar case, or stays placed near your humidor. Its short 62 mm format and 50 g weight make it easy to carry, and its presentation box allows it to be stored away between uses. If you are instead looking for a punch to attach to a keyring, our selection offers others with a more contemporary style or chased decor.
