Mirror citiesHandmade oil painting4 models · 15 sizes

There is that moment, at dusk or after a downpour, when the city doubles: façades plunge into the water of a river or onto wet asphalt and begin to tremble. Urban Reflections captures this instant on canvas. In the top half, stylized towers rise in long vertical strokes; beneath a fine horizon line, their inverted image blurs into moving reflections. Four models present the scene in a dominant hue: A, gold and amber; B, ivory accented with garnet; C, sapphire blue and turquoise; D, pearl gray with silver highlights. These oil paintings are handmade for each order in fifteen vertical sizes ranging from 60 x 90 to 150 x 230 cm, and custom sizes can be considered. Their subject speaks to city dwellers, travelers, and architecture lovers; their almost abstract treatment makes them easy to pair with a contemporary interior, from an office to a bedroom.

Four lights on the city

Model A
A – Gold and amber
Golden and bronze towers, creamy luminous heart, amber reflections.
Model B
B – Ivory and garnet
Pale gold background, garnet red accents, brown and red reflections.
Model C
C – Sapphire
Midnight blue, turquoise and white, some bronze reflections.
Model D
D – Silver
Gray, white and silver highlights, brown touches at the base.

The price is based solely on the dimensions, from €129.90 for 60 x 90 cm to €799.90 for 150 x 230 cm, regardless of the model. All four compositions share the same construction: a tall city and its reflection beneath a low horizon line; only the dominant color changes.

The motif

Painting a reflection

Representing a reflection is a classic landscape painting exercise. The rule is simple: the reflected image takes on the colors of its model, but darker, more blurred, and stretched vertically by the movement of the surface. In Urban Reflections, this rule is applied with great economy of means: a few sharp, horizontal strokes mark the water's surface, then cloudier vertical touches extend each tower downward.

The oil paint, applied in layers of varying thickness, makes this contrast palpable. At the top, the material is more structured and hints at the silhouettes of the buildings; at the bottom, it becomes more fluid, almost liquid. This interplay between solid and liquid gives the painting its depth and its late-day atmosphere, when the light seems to come from the end of the street.

An urban landscape for the interior

Most landscapes hung on walls are of countryside or seaside. Urban Reflections offers the opposite: bringing the city and its energy inside, but in a peaceful form. No crowds, no cars, only volumes and reflected light. The result is just as suitable for a workspace, where it evokes dynamism, as it is for a lounge area, where it invites daydreaming.

Our settings illustrate it in varied interiors: a light gray polished concrete wall with a low console, a marble-floored entryway, a dark living room with dark wood paneling, or a white room where a cognac leather armchair echoes the golden tones of model A. Model B even appears in a gilded frame, which enhances its precious character.

Installing your Urban Reflections

1
Choose the dominant color based on the room's materials: brass and wood for A, velvet and dark wood for B, white and blue for C, gray and chrome for D.
2
Check the available height: the tallest sizes exceed 2 m and require a clear wall.
3
Have the canvas stretched by a professional framer, with or without a frame.
4
Position the horizon line of the painting at approximately eye level for a seated or standing person, depending on the room.

The right model for your decor

Model Dominant hue Matches with Atmosphere
A Gold, bronze, amber Light wood, cognac leather, brass Sunset
B Ivory, garnet Velvet, dark wood, gilded frame Cozy evening
C Sapphire, turquoise, white White walls, marble, duck blue Cool night
D Pearl gray, silver Concrete, chrome, matte black Misty morning
Painted after your order: each Urban Reflections is handmade once the purchase is confirmed. The layout of the towers and the length of the reflections vary slightly from one canvas to another; that is what makes each piece unique. This production time precedes shipment.
Light tip: models A and B, with warm tones, reach their full potential under warm accent lighting; models C and D, which are cooler, prefer the natural light of a well-lit room.

For city lovers

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the reflections at the bottom of the canvas represent?
They depict the inverted image of the buildings on a water surface, such as a river, canal, or street soaked after rain. A fine horizontal line, located about a third of the way down the painting, marks the boundary between the city and its reflection. Below this line, the colors of the towers are repeated in darker, blurrier strokes, stretched downward. This arrangement gives the composition an imperfect symmetry that is very pleasing to the eye, creating an impression of calm, as if the city were holding its breath.
How do I differentiate between models A, B, C, and D?
All depict the same scene, but each in a different light. Model A is dominated by gold, bronze, and amber, with a creamy opening in the center. Model B starts from a pale gold background on which garnet red touches stand out, repeated in the reflections. Model C plunges the city into midnight blue and turquoise, lit with white. Model D plays with sobriety using grays, white, and silver highlights, punctuated by a few brown touches.
Which model should I choose based on my furniture?
Rely on the dominant materials in the room. If your interior features light wood, cognac leather, or brass, Model A and its golds will naturally extend these tones. Model B, with its garnet, thrives near a velvet sofa, dark wood, or warm-toned rug. Model C brings freshness to a white, marble, or blue decor. Finally, Model D suits mineral and industrial interiors—concrete, steel, matte black—where it adds light without introducing bright color.
Do the largest sizes fit under a standard ceiling?
Most homes have a ceiling height of about 2.50 m. A canvas 230 cm high is therefore difficult to install with a frame, especially since you need to leave space above furniture. These very large formats, such as the 150 x 230 or 140 x 220 cm, are better suited for lofts, halls, stairwells, or professional spaces. In a standard living room, the 100 x 150 to 120 x 180 cm formats offer a spectacular effect while remaining easy to hang. Always measure before choosing.
Are the visuals with orange and sepia tones available?
Two photos in the gallery show variations of the same scene, one in bright orange and blue, the other in sepia tones. They illustrate the spirit of the series, but only models A, B, C, and D are available to order on this page. If one of these atmospheres appeals to you more, contact us before ordering: we will let you know if a creation in these shades can be considered and under what conditions. To choose safely, rely on the visuals associated with each model when you select it.
Is the gold frame of model B provided?
No. The gold frame surrounding Model B in one of our photos, just like the black frames in the other visuals, is for styling purposes only. The canvas is delivered alone, without a frame or stretcher. If you like this look, ask your framer for a thin gold molding or a gold floater frame: it will perfectly highlight the warm tones of Model B or Model A. For Models C and D, a black or silver molding matches their cool colors better.
Can I order a custom size, and what is the lead time?
Yes, a custom size is possible upon request, for example for a wall between two doors or a niche. Tell us the desired size and model, and we will confirm the feasibility and price. Regarding the lead time, keep in mind that each canvas is painted after the order: allow time for the artist to paint it and for the oil paint to dry before shipping. If you have an important date in mind, such as a move-in or a birthday, please let us know when ordering.
