humidifier secondary hygrometer

Our selection of humidifiers and hygrometers for cigar humidors

A Havana cigar should be stored like a fine wine — under precise and stable conditions. At Atelier Atypique, our humidification systems and measuring instruments guarantee a balance of 65% to 72% relative humidity and a stable temperature between 16°C and 18°C. Free delivery, customer reviews 4.9/5.

Why is humidity critical for your cigars?

🌵
Too dry (< 65%)
The tobacco dries out, the wrapper cracks, and combustion speeds up. The cigar burns too hot, too fast, and the flavors evaporate before they reach the palate.
💧
Too humid (> 72%)
The Havana swells, the draw becomes blocked, and combustion becomes uneven. Beyond 75%, mold can grow, making the collection unusable.
Ideal range: 65% to 72%
In this range, the tobacco retains its essential oils, the wrapper remains supple, combustion is regular, and the flavors are fully revealed.
🌡️
Temperature: 16 to 18°C
Heat accelerates the development of the tobacco beetle (Lasioderma serricorne). Thermal stability is as important as hygrometry.

The golden rule: a slightly dry cigar is better than one that is too humid. A dried-out cigar can be gradually rehydrated — a moldy cigar is permanently lost.

The 4 humidification systems available

Entry-level 🧽
Sponge or foam
Absorbs distilled water and diffuses it through evaporation. For small humidors (< 50 cigars). Refill every 2 to 3 weeks.
Practical 📦
Boveda packs
"Plug & play" system — precise regulation at 62, 65, 69, or 72%. Lifespan 2 to 3 months. Ideal for travel and cigar cases.
Large capacity
Electronic active system
Motorized regulation with integrated sensor. Precision to the nearest degree. Ideal for cabinet humidors > 150 cigars or professional collections.

Important: always use distilled or demineralized water — never tap water. Limescale clogs systems and deposits minerals on tobacco leaves.

Analog or digital hygrometer?

Classic style 🕰️
Analog model
Dial with needle. Elegant design for prestigious humidors. Accuracy: ±5%. Three technologies available (spring, natural hair, synthetic).

Our recommendation: for valuable cigars, choose a digital hygrometer. The difference between ±5% and ±1% can mean the difference between 64% and 70% actual humidity — which changes everything for long-term preservation.

Which solution for which profile?

Profile Recommended system Autonomy

FAQ — Buying a humidifier & hygrometer

Which humidifier should I choose to start?
A Boveda 69% pack starting from €15 is the simplest choice for beginners. No manipulation, no possible error — the pack automatically regulates humidity for 2 to 3 months. Ideal for small humidors up to 50 cigars.
What is the correct humidity level?
Between 65% and 72% relative humidity. For Cuban Habanos, 65-68% is often recommended for optimal draw. Below 65%, the cigar dries out; above 72%, mold can appear.
Analog or digital hygrometer?
Digital is recommended for its precision (±1 to 2% versus ±5% for analog). For valuable cigars, this difference is significant. Analog remains an elegant option for prestigious humidors where aesthetics are paramount.
What budget should I plan for?
Entry-level starts at €15 for a Boveda pack or an analog hygrometer. The best value for money/accuracy is between €30 and €70 (crystal humidifiers + digital hygrometer). Electronic active systems exceed €70.
Can I use tap water?
No. Limescale and chlorine clog systems and deposit mineral residues on tobacco leaves. Always use distilled water or demineralized water — available in supermarkets for a few cents per liter.
Is delivery free?
Yes, free delivery in metropolitan France. Each humidifier and hygrometer is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition, ideal for gifting.
